After spending 15 years at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan, he became the Director of the Breast Surgery Program at the Candiolo Cancer Institute – Torino IRCCS in 2022.
Dr. Toesca is particularly well known for his expertise in minimally invasive surgery, especially robotic mastectomy. In 2014, he performed the world’s first robotic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction—a groundbreaking technique aimed at improving aesthetic outcomes and the quality of life for patients. This approach minimizes scarring by performing the incision under the arm and completing the procedure through a small axillary incision.
He is also involved in teaching and research. He is a professor in the Breast Surgery Master’s Program at the University of Milan and the International Specialization Master in Senology at the International University of Madrid. Dr. Toesca is a regular speaker and moderator at international conferences and has published numerous scientific articles on breast cancer.
In addition to his role at the Candiolo Cancer Institute, he also sees patients at Clinica Madonnina in Milan and at other medical centers in Sassari and Modena. He offers telemedicine consultations as well, making his specialized services more accessible to patients remotely.
